Elderly Minnesotans can exercise higher levels of independence and self-direction by practicing Consumer Directed Community Supports (CDCS) through PICS. If you are not familiar with CDCS, please read our brief What is CDCS page. You can also request a free DVD about CDCS, or watch it online.

The days of limited care options for elderly people are history. Choice is important in today's world, and CDCS brings a host of key choices to elderly Minnesotans. CDCS allows elderly people to control how their waiver dollars are spent. They can bring services to their home, hire family members and friends as caregivers, and modify their living space. They design their own support plan, deciding at every turn how to meet their own needs. Best of all, CDCS is easy to practice. Individuals can be involved in as many or as few details as they like, and plenty of ongoing help is available.

CDCS is available to elderly Minnesotans who use the Elderly Waiver (EW), the Alternative Care (AC) Program, Minnesota Disabilities Health Options (MnDHO), or Managed Care.

Through our own services, and through involvement with organizations like the Minnesota Board on Aging, PICS is dedicated to catalyzing greater independence and self-direction among elderly Minnesotans.
